apple lossless music with sony pha3 and mdr z7m2

The Sony PHA-3 is a USB capable DAC.

In order to use it with your iPhone/iPad you need a Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. It gives you the possibility to charge your iPhone and, at the same, connect to your DAC.

I use it with Apple Music or any other source, because the connected DAC is recognized system wide on the iOS/iPadOS device.

In my experience some DACs need a USB powered hub between the DAC and the Camera Adapter. I have no experience with the PHA-3. Your mileage may vary.

A USB DAC like the PHA-3 can be connected to a Mac, too. Music app on Mac doesn't support "Exclusive Mode", though. In order to have a bit perfect experience you should match the sample rate manually for every song in Audio MIDI Setup utility. iOS/iPadOS devices aren't affected by this "annoyance".

I have the pha 3 and mdrz7 (mark 1). It works just fine without the connection kit but you’re limited to 48khz 24 bit. I’m going to try a camera connection kit to see if I can get hi res audio to work. Lossless works fine without the camera kit, hi res does not.
