“iTunes could not restore the iPhone because an error occurred' while trying to restore back up.
When selected restore got a pop-up to enter password to unlock your iphone back up (I donot set any passowrd though). But I have tried my apple id pwd and evem my phone passcode. Nothing worked and getting error as above.
Previously i have an iphone 11 and now upgraded to iphone 12, and the lightning cable is different. Will that effect my restoring process.

Well, if you got that "pop-up to enter password to unlock your iphone backup", it should be password protected.
(in iTunes on your computer Edit>Preferences>Devices... that backup should have a small "lock" icon).
iTunes doesn't set up passwords by itself. Is anyone else using that computer? Should be this case, ask them.
That password has nothing to do with your Apple ID's password.
And no, sorry, no way to restore data from that backup without knowing the password, to my knowledge.
