ANY way to print on old HP Deskjet F4280 on my new iMac BigSur

Enjoying the new iMac. The only surprise has been, though my very old printer HP F4280 is recognised, I have not been successful at printing.

When a document is printed, the printer icon appears very briefly in the Dock then disappears. The printer queue is completely empty.

I understand that there is no firmware available from HP. The printer works fine from my old iMac. I print so infrequently, I would love to find a way to preserve this old printer, which works fine.

Thanks.

Hello,

Have you tried the HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for macOS (Post Date: Dec 11, 2020) at https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US ? An HP Deskjet F4200 series driver version 4.0.5 is mentioned in the Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support article.

Thank you for the suggestion. Just installed the driver from the link you provided. After installing, the behaviour is the same. There is a brief "processing page" progress bar that quickly completes. The printer icon then briefly shows "1" (document in queue. But then a second later, the "1" disappears. Printer queue remains empty.

The scan feature of the printer IS working as normal.
