Apple GeoIP Data Database

My question is who provides that data to Apple. Recently, Apple got incorrect geoIP data for my IP address range and I have checked various GeoIP providers and their data is correct, but Apple's data is not. How do I go about getting them to correct the data?

Hi jweaver312,

When you sign into your Apple ID account the verification process gives you an approximate location, not the exact location. So you will see a message similar to this one:

“ Your Apple ID is being used to sign in on the web near Washington, DC. “

This is expected behavior. Apple has your security and privacy in mind and takes it very seriously. Apple engineers are always looking to improve our products and services. You can always leave feedback regarding this topic here:

Salutations jweaver312,

Thank you for taking the time to visit the Apple Support Communities! It seems that you have a concern with inaccurate location using our Location Services. We will be honored to assist you! You do have the ability to share your precise location if you are noticing that your location is inaccurate.

Please review the information below:

“ How to share your specific location

With iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, some apps can use Precise Location to get to your specific location. To share only your approximate location — which may be sufficient for an app that doesn’t need your exact location — turn Precise Location off. Here's how:

Go to Settings > Privacy, then select Location Services.

Select an app, then turn Precise Location on or off.

Learn more about privacy and Location Services. “

For more information regarding this topic please read the article below:

Turn Location Services and GPS on or off on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Have a fantastic day!

That is not the issue. Location Services is working just fine but the problem is the GeoIP for sign ins to the Apple Account. For example when you sign into the Apple Account, the IP along with geolocation based on IP is logged. The problem is that Apple’s GeoIP data is incorrect. So it makes it look like I signed into the account itself from locations nowhere near where I’m at.

I get that but the issue is being misunderstood to a degree. The issue is that it used to be a spot on approximate location (which is based on GeoIP database) but now it’s not. The bigger issue is where did Apple get this false data and changed the information on their database.

There was no reason for Apple to change the information but they did which made it go from approximate to far off wrong.
