Reset Custom Access in Document folder

Hi All,

btw, sorry for my english.

MacBook Pro 2017, Big Sur 11.4

my document folder located in user/myname/Documents cannot be changes in terms of permission. i had tried so many ways, including restore my macbook, but still same. in "sharing an permission" it show you have custom access even though i have restored my macbook.

i had tried:-

restoring macOS (without restoring the backup form time machine)

restoring macOS (with restoring backup)

reset permission by terminal "chmod command n etc"

run disk utility from recovery page to all available disk

run "diskutil" reset by terminal

set permission to "chmod 777" i think, cant remember.

i noticed this issue arise when i update macos from catalina to big sur around last year, when i want to changing the document folder icon. the Sharing and permission dont show any prompt or text. but after restoring the macos it just show :-

plese help :( i tried so many many ways, googling and youtube, still same issue :((

terminal then used command " resetHomePermissions "

then reinstall back the macOS (Big Sur)

Result still same :(

2.

i run command " sudo chmod -a# 0 /Users/manjoe/Documents "

the result is still same but the sharing and permissions show :-

by logic i think i have full permissions on my Document Folder, but still i can't do anything, like rename/add tag or delete

here the latest update :-

  1. its getting weird now, as u can see i had 2 same folder info in the same desktop which is normally is not possible to do that
  2. why theres 2 info - the left info i open before i changing the user to other user (reopen window after logging is ticked), then changing back to primary user then it appear normally :), but later i open Documents Info once again, and it show same result (right info)

if i erase all of my hard drive, then reinstall back the macOS, without restore the backup, u think its gonna works?

The custom permissions was perhaps the rwx for group and others. I don't know why you have that.

The ACL you deleted is normal and would only prevent you from deleting the Documents folder.

The Documents folder (and others in your home folder) should be

drwx------+
 0: group:everyone deny delete

After resetting the permissions, why did you delete the ACL?

There was also no reason to reinstall the OS. The OS Volume and OS is completely separate from your Data.

The only thing I see is your permissions were wrong. everyone should be no access.

I don't know why it would change that after you ran the repairHomePermissions.

If you erase and reinstall without restoring, at a least you could start from a known state. I can't tell what you have done.

When you reinstall, the Setup Assistant will ask to create a new user. Make it different than your backed up user so you can migrate that user later.

Make sure everything works in the new user before migrating the old user.

the issue arise after I updating macOS Catalina to Big Sur around last year.

at first i thought after resetHomePermission the my permission appear " u can read and write" already settle the issue.

but the document info " sharing and permissions" still don't appear normally, just show "u can read and write" but not name and privilege table.

I’m not sure what the problem is or what problem you’re facing. It appears the permissions are just fine. Are you having any sort of access problem or is it just the words that bother you?

I am running iCloud Drive on all of my Macs, so I am prevented from seeing the sharing pane for Desktop & Documents in Get Info. If I look at other folders in my home they show customer access and they all have normal permissions and I have no problem with them.
