macOS 11 – how to find out what causes long startup time?

How do you find out what causes a MacBook Pro running macOS 11 to take several minutes to start up after typing the password at the account login screen?

(macOS 11.4)

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.12

You could try booting up in Verbose mode. Hold Cmd-V when you hear the startup Tone. If you have FileVault enabled, hold it down also when submitting the password.

If it still works, you should see rows and rows of text spewing forth instead of the progress bar. Watch where it hangs up.

I can't remember if it is the last command before the hang up or the next one, but at least you can narrow it down to two.
