Brightness automatically dimming after IOS 14.6 update

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, your iPhone is dimming, but you have auto brightness off. We can understand why you'd reach out for a solution.

Let's make sure True Tone is turned off.

"On supported models, turn on True Tone to automatically adapt the color and intensity of the display to match the light in your environment.

Do any of the following:

• Open Control Center, touch and hold , then tap  to turn True Tone on or off.
• Go to Settings  > Display & Brightness, then turn True Tone on or off."

I am having the same problem. Seemed to be triggered by bringing down the notification bar. Anyway, I noticed that the screen warmth was different, so I turned off night shift and the brightness popped back up. Now I’m seeing it fluctuate.

I'm having the same exact issue and it's very annoying. I've tried most of the "fixes". Funny enough, most of the time, when I restart the iPad, it will go to full brightness for at least a little while. The Magic Keyboard isn't keeping it charged either after the latest update. This is very annoying.

Same here , and it definitely started after the most recent iOS 14.6 update. My dimming level doesn’t move, but my phone goes pretty ___<insert any fun 4 letter word 😉> dark.

It seems to happen more often if I’m outside sitting under our umbrella in the shade.

I did have things on, but turned them off after reading this post. Turning off automatic and true-tone didn’t do anything, can barely see to type this. I’ll try rebooting my phone and see if that makes a difference, I’ll let you all know if it helps, but I’m betting it won’t, since everyone else here said they already has those functions turned off when the dimming started after the update.

I remember that was an issue a little while back, but can’t remember which update it was. At that time I didn’t have that particular little bug, but now I’m having it happen too.

Having the same issue. All is turned off for me to. Super frustrating!!!!

Same issue here. Auto & True Tone are off. It gets so dark I can’t even see to get to the settings page. This started happening after this last update. iPhone 12, IOS 14.6.

It’s definitely teaching me not to be so fast when they offer Software updates.

Another reason their walled garden stance is so tenuous and unconvincing.

I have had this issue. Moreover it happened again today. I’ve read Apple responses here, in other Apple discussion threads; and multiple forums. There is quite the talk of the obvious “auto-brightness”, etc. with all of the settings correct, it still happens. I’ve tried every single recommendation. I’m running current IOS 14.6. The only solution that works when all the settings are set correctly but it is still happening is to ‘Reset All Settings’. Do not ‘erase…’!

Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings

You will have to setup your personal preferences again and log back in to your wi-fi as I had to do; but this was the only way to correct the issue.

I spent several hours today; watching videos, reading forums; and reading the Apple moderator responses with frustration.
