Phone Audio not working

When I play a video the sound rarely works without trying some solutions. The video will play with no sound. I’ll try to turn up/down the volume and the phone doesn’t even register that the buttons are being pressed.

this doesn’t happen every time but more often than not.

Any advice?

Hello,

Start with these steps:

Is the side mute button on? Does any red show?How about the volume buttons? Is the volume very low?
Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics. Check the Ringer and Alerts slider. Try changing the sound pattern for the type of alert.
Go to Settings > Notifications. Is the app listed?
Go to Settings > Do Not Disturb. Is it on?
Do other sounds work? What about phone calls?
Do you have an Apple watch? Many of the notifications will go to the watch instead of the phone.
