Will I harm my iPad Pro (2021) if I charge it with an anker 45W PD power bank?

I bought the anker power core PD+ 26800 power bank so I could charge my iPad Pro without needing a nearby plug socket. It definitely charges faster however the iPad does get hot when I use it, significantly hotter than when I charge it with the included 20W charger, probably twice as hot if not more, not to the point where it can’t be touched or anything, but still a lot hotter than using the wall charger. Also it doesn’t seem to slow down or cool down at 80% and just pushes the power into the iPad until it’s at 100%.

I know the iPad supports charging up to 30 watts and I believe it will regulate the charge so it wont pull in more power than it’s capable of using (correct me if my information is incorrect)

I’m just wondering whether all of this heat is going to age my battery faster and whether it’s worth me using the USB-A port on my anker power bank which charges at 15 watts.

Hi Nameless0111,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue charging your iPad Pro and you'd like some information about how to best do that. We'd like to help.

The iPad Pro should have no issues connecting with the 30W Anker Power Core power bank. This will provide the same power as using a MacBook Power Adapter and that's listed as compatible here: 30W USB-C Power Adapter. From what you've described, you've noticed the device becoming warmer than usual when charging with this power bank. Some increase in temperature can be expected while charging. Do you ever receiving any alerts on your display about the temperature? If the device was too warm, it would provide you with that alert and it would make changes to protect the internal components. You can read about that here: Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable operating temperatures

You also mentioned that you noticed that the device doesn't slow at 80% and, instead, just pushes the power to the iPad unit it's at 100%. This would be expected with an iPad Pro, as the iPhone is the only device that has Optimized Power charging in the Settings.

Hope that answered your questions. We're here if you have any others.

Take care!
