Combining MXF files with MOV files in FCPX

Hey,

I had some additional footage shot for a film I'm editing, but it was with a different camera. The first film was shot with a Blackmagic and has MOV files and the new footage is from a Sony FS7 and has MXF files. All the new MXF files imported fine and you can skim through them no problem, but when you try to play them it continually renders/wheel of death/etc. and makes it almost impossible to edit with. Anyone have any ideas why this is? Can you not combine two different file types? Should I convert the MXF to MOV? I'm a bit of a novice, so be kind!

Bob is right.

Select one of the mxf clips in the browser, control-click, Transcode Media and check the box for proxy.

Then in the little menu at the top right of the viewer choose “Proxy Preferred”.

Compare how the one clip you made proxy for plays back vs another.
