What is the "Home" app and why do I have it on my iPad home screen and Settings application?

I never had it downloaded when I bought my device and all of a sudden, it's on my:

a) iPad Home Screen

b) Settings Application list

c) App Store downloaded item list.

I have no idea what this application does, and should I be concerned? (I am concerned, and it's deeply discomforting.)

(It's appeared on my device for no reason... I've removed its unwanted presence on iPad but my iPad 'glitches' with randomly typed words when I am typing things... not sure why I am mentioning this but I genuinely think my iPad is hacked - is that even possible as they are claimed to be immune to that sort of nonsense...)

The Home App is Apple’s Home Automation App - that can be used to operate HomeKit devices - such as your heating, home security, lighting etc. The Home App is installed by default on all new iPad and iPhone devices.

Should you wish to do so, it can be uninstalled/deleted from your iPad and other devices.
