Home hub cycles between connected/disconnected state

I’ve setup my AppleTV 4K as the home hub. I’ve connected to the router via Ethernet. The home hub constantly disconnects, then (after a random time) reconnects again. This cycle repeats which results in numerous notifications on all my devices that the home hub is disconnected/connected 😡. Additionally the home hub is only partially available (while it’s connected).

I’ve tried restarting the AppleTV and I’ve taken the “unstable WiFi” out of the equation by connecting it over Ethernet.


Does anyone know of any other tricks I can try to get this feature to work?

Hi Michael,

I disconnected the ATV as the home hub and set my iPad up as the only home hub. I left this configuration running for a full day and night. So far I’ve only got one disconnect/connect notification. They were within seconds of one another.

This setup is stable, so I think I’ve (with your help) managed to isolate the fault down to the ATV. Also at night I left the iPad in the same location as the ATV and still didn’t get any issues.

Maybe this is an issue with tvOS and it’s implementation of HomeKit?

Could it be a H/W issue? Given that I don’t have any issues with anything else, ATV+/Netflix streaming (zero buffering).


The jury is still out on this problem. I’m going to switch back to the ATV tonight and see if it magically fixed itself 😜

Hi Jeff_W,

Thanks for the reply. I can confirm that…

  • my AppleTV is up to date: tvOS 14.6
  • the primary user is signed in to iCloud
  • both iCloud Keychain and two-factor authentication are enabled
  • the AppleTV is connected to the network and powered on


I have tried restarting both the router and the AppleTV, neither action resolved the issue 🙁
