Safari links going to download instead of opening

When I try to login on Shopify I click on my username to go to the pw page and it just goes to download and then nothing happens on the site. It creates a login download that is an empty file. I am able to browse other sites like normal. When I try Shopify on Chrome or FireFox, everything works as intended but not on Safari. This started a couple days ago while in my account I couldn't refresh and it was just downloading each click, but I could navigate my entire account with no issues. So I shut down Safari and quit it then went to go back and now I can't even log into my Shopify account via Safari. I would like to continue to use Safari as it is not a RAM hog like Chrome.

A few possibilities come to mind...

  1. Somehow (I have no idea how) you have it set to 'Download linked file' on click. Ctrl+click on the link and choose open in new tab.
  2. The site is having issues and it's up to the owner to fix it.
  3. You need to update Safari.
  4. Safari is blocking pop-ups. Try going to Safari>Preferences>Websites>Pop-ups, and allowing them on Shopify.
