MFi controllers for NBA 2K21

Is this a bug in the 2K21 on the Apple TV? I’ve got an Apple TV HD and Steelseries Nimbus controllers which work fine on all other games, either in Apple Arcade or the game apps themselves. But when I start the 2K21 app, it says only certain controllers can be used - including MFi controllers. I once was able get past this dialog using the Apple TV remote because behind this window was a prompt to touch screen but this no longer works. I’m not about to run out and spend more money on controllers which work perfectly fine before. What’s happening here?
