Connect iPad to car

Can I connect my iPad Air the same way to my car as an iPhone?

Yes - although if your intention is to charge the iPad, you need to check that the USB power-source can provide sufficient power. Your iPad requires 10-12W (i.e., 2.0-2.4A @5V) to reliably charge. Many USB connections can only supply 5W (1.0A @5V), which whilst adequate for an iPhone, will not charge an iPad.
