Even after clearing about 20 gb of memory it says memory not sufficient

How much memory do I need to upgrade to macOS Big Sur from macOS Catalina, as even after clearing 20 GB it shows as memory not enough

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Hey there!

Valid question. I think this article should give you the answer:

macOS Big Sur - Technical Specifications:

https://support.apple.com/kb/sp833

The requirements say about 35.5 gb. (For macOS Sierra and later). Just to note, the OS wont take up all of this space, but just needs it temporarily during the upgrade process.

I wouldn’t hurt to free up just a bit more either. Hope that helps!
