my iMac is currently in version 10.13 when I try to update some of the apps such as Numbers and try to purchase an app, it tells me that I need version 10.15. I've checked and completed the update and I am still on version 10.13. What am I missing that I cannot update to version 10.15?

Are you completing the updates that Software Update downloads? Those only update the macOS that currently runs on your machine.
To upgrade the macOS version to Catalina you will have to download the upgrade installer from the app store and run that.

So, you are telling me that I need to update to a different OS system? AS far as I am aware of, I complete the software updates as I should. I'm just not understanding if OS High Sierrra has to be updated to Catalina for me to get version 10.15 or higher. Will High Sierra not update to 10.15 or higher?
