I had previously been on my laptop and closed the laptop. When I came back and opened up my laptop this is what I see. If I let my computer adjust for a few minutes the colours get darker and it turns into purple or grey. I have tried the control-option-p-r reset and nothing has changed. anyone have any advice?

The issue is due to a bad Display or a very slim possibility of a loose display cable. Have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine the laptop to provide you with a repair estimate.
In the mean time you can connect an external display to continue using the laptop until it can be repaired.
