monitor wifi performance when using wifi dongle

Hello, I have purchased a wifi dongle that i plug in my macbook pro to try and see if the wifi performance will be better with it than with my 13' macbook pro, as I think its antenna is not as performant as my 16' macbook pro, and I would like more reliable internet on it.

I would like to check what the performance with the dongle is, to compare it with the performance with regular wifi. How do I do this?

Typically, I would control click on my wifi icon or look into wireless diagnostics to check the Tx rate, Noise and RSSI, but when using the dongle there's no performance metrics recorded when I look at these utilities. It seems that the dongle uses a different route all together.

Ideas? Thanks!
