escape key disappeared from touch bar

My escape key disappeared from my touch bar.. is there a way to fix this without re-installing Mac OS?!?

Background apps exiting OS X 12.5.1 (21G83) Usually the memory apps like Excel and iMovie: in the background, after awhile, they exit, and need restarted (and in the case of Excel, forget state). This is a recent change. I have plenty of memory (32GB) and don't even get close to running out (I watch the Activity Monitor). Is there some setting to stop this behavior?

We see that your Touch Bar is not showing the escape key on your Mac.

We’d be happy to help you!

Please follow the steps in How to use safe mode on your Mac to test out the issue with the Touch Bar. You will need to sign in once the Mac finishes loading as it checks the software and you can restart to get out of safe mode once you have tested to see if the escape key on the Touch Bar is appearing.
