Charging iPad during a power outage

I want to find some way to recharge my iPad if I experience a lengthy power outage. I live in California and could be facing days of power outage depending on the fire situation. The ends for the iPad connection cord are unique to the iPad and are not compatible with any charger I have found so far. Any suggestions?

Thanks Marguerite

In addition to Solar, there are many high-power PowerBank batteries that are suitable to recharge an iPad multiple times. Some are rated at 26000mAh or greater - and are often utilised when travelling away from AC Power, or to provide an instant source of back-up power when needed. It follows that a portable battery can provide power in darkness.

Here are some examples from mophie:

Other manufacturers are available. When looking for a PowerBank for iPad, large battery capacity is important. By example, the mophie 3XL (26000mAh) can provide about three full recharges of many models of iPad.

If you need seriously high capacity, a vehicle battery and suitable 12/24V USB Power Adapter can be very useful:

Keep it simple.

In addition to a 12v vehicle adaptor …

… a small desktop-style UPS contains a HUGE amount of energy relative to a phone.

Keeping it plugged-in but “off” will keep it fully charged.

During a blackout the UPS can be periodically “cold started” to recharge your phone [preferably using a “fast charger”] followed by turning the UPS back off to conserve the battery.

I always keep several PowerBanks handy for business continuity purposes. I find that the large capacity Li-ion PowerBanks are almost zero maintenance - that if otherwise unused, only require only the lightest top-up (if at all) every four to six months.

Unlike devices with small built-in batteries, where quiescent load and self discharge represents a more significant percentage of overall battery capacity, big Li-ion packs lose insignificant charge whilst unused.

You can get these solar cell panels about the size of a large book (but thinner) that are used by campers to recharge things such as cellphones and small devices. It probably won't provide power for 24/7 usage, and will depend upon sunlight availability, but it might help for short connectivity. You'd just have to get an adapter to fir the older USB A/-B type connection.
