Trying to redeem my icloud 4 month free trial

I have the same situation. I spent nearly 3 hours on the phone and PC chat with Apple Support (passed around to at least 6 people) and got no where! Apple told me to take the issue up with Target. When I redeem the code, I'm asked to login to my Apple ID, then it goes to my iTunes account and has me login in there. The screen pops up that the code was redeemed, but then it goes back to asking me to login to my Apple ID, and then it goes back to the iTunes acct login. It's a vicious cycle and I never successfully get my iCloud upgraded. I really think this is an Apple issue and not a Target issue. But is it worth it to save $3.96? My Apple ID and iTunes acct ID are different. Could that be the issue?
