audible app plays randomly on iphone

The audible app on my iphone SE (2020) will abruptly start playing even though I never listen on my phone. I only use the phone app to downlaod the titles to my apple watch where I listen via wireless earbuds. I now have to keep my phone's media volume completely off just to prevent it from playing aloud at inopportune times. I have tried turning off cellular data, force stopping the app, deleting and reinstalling the app and NOTHING helps the issue. It will go days without it happening then it will randomly start again and no matter how many times I stop the player it just starts back up. Also, this all happens WITHOUT the app actually being open. I can't tell if my airplay is somehow responsible for the issue, but if it is, I can't find how to turn off that fuction.

It’s been super frustrating!

I did figure out a “hack” that seems to prevent it from happening: if I set my phone audible player (through audible app, not iPhone media player) to a different title than I’m playing on my watch it seems to “confuse” the player and stops it from playing on its own. This is obviously a less than ideal solution but at least I’m saving myself a little sanity with this. Hope this can help someone else!

Oh my gosh, I've been having the exact same problem since I added an apple watch with my iPhone 12! Never had this problem with any of my previous iPhones either until I got the watch. I'm constantly deleting the audible app and re- downloading it for this issue and because every so often I cannot sync a book from audible to the watch because the phone tells me that I don't have Audible installed on my watch. Yet when I check to see if its still there, it is! I believe this is totally an apple problem, I don't have any Audible issues with my Kindle or Echo show.

It appears neither audible or Apple wants to claim any responsibility for this issue both are pointing to the other. Can you work together for your customers?
