Can I still backup my device through my Macbook while my phone is unexpectedly stuck on recovery mode?

I really thought so, I have began the restore process, I was hoping to hear different, my last backup for whatever reason was in late March, very unfortunate loss of our last memories with my mother-in-law.
Well, all we can do after past mistakes is learn from them.
