Storage decreased by 10GB without any downloads need help

So 3 days ago before I tried to install Xcode I had. 40GB of storage remaining and after 5 attempts I gave up on it and stopped and now it shows that I have 30GB remaining and I haven't downloaded anything above 100MB for that past 3 days is there anyway to get the 10GB back?

Try rebooting the Mac. Booting briefly into Safe Mode will clear out some temp & cache files as well.

If you have open web browsers (especially with lots of windows/tabs open) they can gobble up lots of memory and storage space just by sitting open.

If you have trouble installing XCode, it may mean you have some conflict with some third party software that you have installed. Run EtreCheck and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

You can use OmniDiskSweeper to see where the largest files/folders are located.
