Alarm Clock is not playing downloaded songs from Apple Music

I was having the same problem. I never had a problem before playing any songs on my phone then one day it stopped and all I got was the annoying bell. I tried resetting my alarms, only using songs purchased from iTunes but still nothing. After reading the responses on here I went into settings, music, audio quality and turned off lossless and now it plays my songs on my alarm. Hope this works for you.

after an update, iTunes must’ve removed my song from being stored locally and put it on the cloud. To confirm this, I went to my music app and searched downloads and the song was no longer downloaded to my phone. Once I redownloaded the song (again you have to do this in the MUSIC app and not the iTunes Store) the song worked on all my alarms again.

Just forced myself to try and figure out a way to get alarms with lossless audio the best solution I could find is go into shortcuts and create an automation so that whenever an alarm goes off it plays a song. Works perfectly. Then you can also go and set up automation for when the alarm is snoozed/stopped it will stop the song. Also recommend setting all your alarms to no sound if you go this route otherwise it starts playing the other songs first. One thing that maybe I was a bit slow and couldn't figure out is that there was no option to pause music as an automation. It was a simple solution (making a non automated pause shortcut then running that) but I just didn't see an option for that inside the automation menu.

I solved mine. My iPhone storage was rammed, mainly with music. I deleted a pile of songs from my library, and the alarm worked fine. Tried all the other stuff. That was the only thing that made any difference, in my case.

This problem is still there in iOS 18.2. The downloaded song must be in High Quality. Lossless and Dolby Atmos downloaded music are not supported.

I like to listen in Lossless and Dolby Atmos format. But this means my alarms cannot be set to a song.

I truly hope this issue can be fixed soon. Please let the Alarm support Lossless and Dolby Atmos songs.

It's an issue with song download quality level, fix being to not use lossless. I'm still having this issue on 18.3.1 and it's very disappointing to be woken up by the default alarm instead of my soothing music. :(

Yep. That totally seems to be the easier fix. I totally forgot they even had the option to switch to Dolby atmos or Lossless types. Makes sense. Saves money too instead of having to buy the song as a ringtone, etc.

I would’ve totally picked up on That but didn’t even take it into account. I was kinda in a rush to get a solution because I needed the alarms to work ASAP and they weren’t, but the loseless audio and Dolby Atmos and etc makes total sense.

you can also change your settings to not download or stream music on the higher quality settings if preferred so you don’t have to tweak this with every new song you download. Just makes things easier.

I was having this issue too. Tried so many things and nothing seemed to work. Then I went into my Apple Music app and downloaded the song there (in addition to being downloaded and purchased off iTunes) and it fixed it! 💃

I had the same problem; I downloaded Chopin Etudes from Apple Music and the alarms worked but after a while I woke up to a different sound. It sounded nothing like the songs I wanted. I would click the song again, delete it and download it again from Apple Music, but it still played that "weird tone".

You need to go to the "Tone Store" aka "iTunes Store" and find the songs/tone/ring sound you want. You can buy an entire album, or just the sound. If it is a sound that you want, it is worth the purchase. I really wanted the "Dearly Beloved" Kingdom Hearts theme, and downloaded one for $1.29. I purchased a second one just in case (another $1.29). Hope this is helpful.

Who would have thought that having the alarm sound you want makes you want to wake up and start your day!

The only way to “fix it” is by purchasing the song on iTunes. If you hit the “tunes store” button on the alarm options and then buy the song it will play

Apparently to add a song to your alarms. Delete the song’s download, then click the three dots on the song itself and then download it back to your Apple Music. Then you should be able to add the song to your alarms. It worked for me as an iPhone 12 user with iOS 17.1.1. Hope this helps.

All of the above are true as far as download quality, but the song cannot be chosen from a playlist, you have to add it to your library on its own. I do this by favoriting the song.

I had the same issue! Turning off the Dolby Atmos is Music settings and downloading the song again with new settings was the trick. Thank you so much!
