I’ve been having an intermittent issue with my IPhone 7Plus playing Apple Music in lossless mode and on the cellular network. If I stop the playback and resume it a while later, it will not restart at the place in the song it left off. I need to advance to the next track to resume playback. It does this with my Tidal app too. I am wondering is it due to the fact I have an older Iphone or not having 5g service?

It would appear you are running into an issue when trying to resume playing a music tracks from the point they were paused.
Because this is happening with multiple apps, it would point to a network issue, rather than a device or software problem. If you play tracks that are downloaded locally to the iPhone, does the same thing happen?
If not, then we would recommend testing when connected to a known good network. Do not change locations during the test so the device does not have to switch networks. This test will help determine what is causing the problem.
If it works fine with downloaded content, and also performs as expected when connected to a good network, that is not changing, then the issue is most likely the networks that the iPhone is connecting to.

I would tend to agree with that statement because when I listen to music in “lossy” mode on either app, it works OK.
Apple Music won’t resume playback of current song.
