This feature was working last week. Now there’s a spinning ring at the top and I have to enter my passcode. I have an Apple Watch 3 and everything is up to date

This is a function that can only get better with updates/upgrades. However, it will work properly, without having to do occasional restarts, just about the time that we won't need it anymore.
This is still not working for me. I’ve done the hard reset several times but no joy.
The unlock iPhone with Apple Watch who’s wearing a mask is not working.
