SSD drive too small for MacOS Big Sur?
How do I install MacOS Big Sur on MacBook Air late 2017 with a 121GB SSD drive with 34 GB of space? Even ifI remove all apps and data from the drive, there is not enough space.
MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

The problem is with large files fragmenting data.
Backup all your data to an external drive using a clone on two different drives.
Use internet restore (command-option-shift-R) to use Disk Utility on View -> Show all volumes to erase first as HFS Extended Journalled, and then APFS.
Then install the OS.
Then upgrade to Big Sur if you must have Big Sur.

Thanks for this. I actually do not feel the need for Big Sur; it's just that I am not sure if Apple will give full support to Catalina for at least a couple more years; and more importantly, will Catalina updates continue and keep it secure?
You don't. You need to free up more space.
Very helpful reply. I will certainly use the resources you give. Thanks again.
