iMessage and android users

I can text my friend on phone iMessage and it goes thru. When I use the iPad it doesn't...what am I doing wrong?

iPad 2, iOS 9

Is your phone updated to the latest version of iOS that it supports? Are you really still using iOS 9?

Try restarting your phone.

If that doesn't work, the next thing I'd suggest is resetting your settings. It's annoying to have to redo them all but it may make things reappear. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings.
