How can I convert movie formats that Apple now does not allow into a format that Apple will accept?

I am an old user of Apple (1979) and have a host of memories that I filmed  and downloaded films that I have accumulated over the decades and now the Mac refuses to use let me see them. Is there a way to convert these videos into mp4, or should I just dump Apple?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15
