How to activate the forward-facing "expressionless" Memoji?

I figured it was time for my Memoji to stop wearing a face mask, so I created a post-pandemic (and slightly aged) version.

Previously, I was able to choose the forward-looking "plain headshot" Memoji for my avatar.

Now, however, when I click on the plain Memoji, the active choices I'm given include all the other (more or less goofy-looking) Memoji but not the plain one … the one I just clicked on and the one I want.

Any suggestions for getting around this?

Thank you.

Hello sfrench,

Memoji is a great feature of animoji, and you've come to a great place for help. To clarify a bit further it sounds as though you're unable to create a new Memoji using the traditional face versus the different characters. When attempting to change or update your Memoji are you following the steps outlined in the article below? If not, verify you're walking through those steps.

Use Memoji on your iPhone or iPad Pro

Let us know how that goes, and we'll continue from there. Have a great day!

Thank you for responding, melissa_m77.

I've done as you suggest, but there is no Memoji app. Even using Memoji as a search term, the only thing that turns up is Memoji Stickers.

I went to the App Store to see if perhaps I could download a copy from there, but the only Memoji app I found was for the Apple Watch.

It's a mystery! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Still open to any other ideas that might surface.
