How to activate the forward-facing "expressionless" Memoji?

I figured it was time for my Memoji to stop wearing a face mask, so I created a post-pandemic (and slightly aged) version.

Previously, I was able to choose the forward-looking "plain headshot" Memoji for my avatar.

Now, however, when I click on the plain Memoji, the active choices I'm given include all the other (more or less goofy-looking) Memoji but not the plain one … the one I just clicked on and the one I want.

Any suggestions for getting around this?

Hello sfrench,

Memoji is a great feature of animoji, and you've come to a great place for help. To clarify a bit further it sounds as though you're unable to create a new Memoji using the traditional face versus the different characters. When attempting to change or update your Memoji are you following the steps outlined in the article below? If not, verify you're walking through those steps.

With the app not showing when searching the next step would be to contact Apple. You can find their contact information via the Get Support website.

Reading through the page you sent, I see this …

I don't have a Memoji button, just a Memoji Stickers button. That would seem to explain why I can only access the goofy-looking Memojis and not the basic one on which the stickers are based.

Do you have any idea why I don't have a Memoji button?

Thank you for the update sfrench,

If the Memoji button is missing that would indicate the app isn't showing in your favorites. If you swipe from right to left across the application menu, then tap More you should see Memoji in the 'More Apps' section. To add the app to your favorites tap 'Edit' then tap the + sign to add the app.
