I am not sure whether you are talking about messages in terms of SMS or iMessage, but I am sure this Apple support link would be able to help you -> https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204065
What I encountered before is that I have forgotten to turn on Text Message Forwarding (Settings > Messages) or have forgotten to add new phone number to Send & Receive (Settings > Messages). See whether these two are properly set up, then you should be able to receive messages.
