crackling popping, IOS garageband recording using interface

Hello,

I have an issue currently where I am recording a guitar track through the scartlet studio condenser mic

amp/pedal > condenser mic > focusrite 2i2 > garage band (monitoring through headphone jack on the focusrite)

when I first start recording it seems fine. then as I go on it starts crackling

if I minimize the garageband and then pull it back up it resets the monitoring and the crackling goes away but then comes back after a minute

really putting a cramp in laying down tracks and there is no way to set the buffering on the ipad pro

any help solving this would be appreciated
