When setting up a new Mac, should I transfer data from the old Mac or from my external hard drive. (Both are currently backed up.

When setting up my new iMac, (old iMac and time machine are currently backed up) do I transfer data from just the time machine or also from the old iMac?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.14

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.


It is best to plug-in your Time Machine drive and move data from that. Follow the on-screen prompts during Setup Assistant for moving data.
