Is maps good for planning a road trip trip cross country with some flights involved?

Maps is best for single drives with no intermediate stops. Any time or route estimate is based on traveling at the current time, so you may get a different answer if you ask at rush hour versus the middle of the night.
You can leverage it to help plan longer trips, but you have to put the separate driving segments together external to Maps. It doesn't handle flight at all.
