Can’t connect Xbox controller model 1708 with iPhone 11 Pro Max

  • Yes, I put the controller in pairing mode and went to the bluetooth settings on the iPhone and verified bluetooth was enabled and searching for the device
  • I can connect the phone to other bluetooth devices, like speakers, car, headphones; none are connected while trying to connect the Xbox controller
  • Works on my iPad Pro
  • Tried upgrading iPhone to iOS 14.6
  • Tried rebooting iPhone
  • Unpaired controller w/ iPad
  • Tried multiple times

Update: of course, as soon as I ask the question, it works. I think what I had to do was

  1. Have both iPhone and iPad next to each other, with bluetooth enabled
  2. Allow controller to connect to iPad
  3. Put controller in pairing mode
  4. Use Bluetooth settings on iPad to disconnect controller
  5. Controller now shows up on iPhone

Sounds like you've done some good troubleshooting there. So now it's time to contact the folks at Xbox for help with their product.
