How to force quit the Securus app and uninstall.
It is tricky and there are fancy command line approaches that will work, but this is the non command line easy way to resolve this. I do this often because I have to use the app to communicate with my brother.
The back story from another user;
The application is Securus Vre Updater. for Securus app, which is for a telephone account in a jail. I use it to put money on an account. Also can do video calls with it.
It doesn't really open, or come up. The intro window will come up- and then freeze. It constantly shows that it is open in the force quit window. I've tried using the apple logo upper left. The app will temporarily disappear, then come back.
I've used the activity monitor app, to find it, and then click the force quit button x on the upper left. It temporarily disappears, then comes back.
I'm not sure what else to try.
First:
Press these three keys together: Option, Command, and Esc (Escape). Or choose Force Quit from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen. (This is similar to pressing Control-Alt-Delete on a PC.) Then select the app in the Force Quit window and click Force Quit.
Second:
The app will continue to come back on. Be patient. Open the finder
- Locate the app in the Finder. ...
- Drag the app to the Trash, or select the app and choose File > Move to Trash.
- If you're asked for a user name and password, enter the name and password of an administrator account on your Mac. ...
- To delete the app, choose Finder > Empty Trash.
Third:
You will get a return that says cannot move to trash because app is still open.
Here is the trick
- Keep both windows (Finder Window and Force Quit Window) side by side.
- repeat step 1 only 1 time. The app will take longer to boot back up when you force quit multiple times in a row. This will give you time to go to move the app to trash and uninstall next step.
- Move the app to trash.
- Repeat the 3rd section until success. It works every time and takes about 1 minute.
Hope this helps the non tech savy users.
