Adding different debit cards to separate family share accounts

I would like my 13 year old to be able to make purchases with their own debit card, but we’re linked through family sharing. Is there a way to allow him to add his own card? If not, will cancelling family sharing allow him to add his own debit card? Does cancelling family share mean I can no longer see his activity/purchases?

Hello LJoy19,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you’re wondering about purchases and Family Sharing. We’re happy to provide some information.

There is not a way to share purchases and use separate debit cars within Family Sharing. If you were to leave Family Sharing you would lose access to the features listed in this article: What is Family Sharing? - Apple Support

If you’d like to remain in Family Sharing, you can alternatively have your child purchase and redeem a gift card to their Apple ID using their debit card.

Buy Apple Gift Cards - Apple

Redeem your Apple Gift Card - Apple Support

If there is gift card credit on their Apple ID, it will pull from that balance before charging the Family Organizers payment method.

We hope that helps.

Take care.
