MacBook Pro won't properly display Vizio tv through HDMI connection

I have been unable to get my MacBook Pro to properly mirror its screen to a Vizio E420i tv using HDMI. I have no problems when connecting to my Samsung tv. When I connect my MBP to the Vizio through HDMI my laptop screen will display on the tv for a few seconds but my laptop screen itself goes black. Then the tv screen goes black except for the top bar with the Apple logo and Finder. I can't see any options under either of these when I hover over them. If I scroll down slowly from either one then the options will appear in white when I scroll over them and then disappear when my cursor moves. I have tried finding the Display settings doing this but even when I am able to find and click on them I can't see whatever has popped up. I cannot get the cursor to move to my laptop either. It is stuck on the tv. I have Mirroring always on in my Display settings. I think it may be a screen extension issue but I have no idea how to resolve it.

See if this occurs on safe mode as well:

Start up your Mac in safe mode

If the issue persists, you mentioned that this only occurs with your Vizio TV and not your Samsung TV, since you are able to isolate the issue to a specific TV, try reaching out to the manufacturer to see if there are any updates available.
