There is no specific user guide for any iPhone model. Apple has made the user guide specific to the current iOS version for all phones. The guide will discuss any information specific to an iPhone model if needed.
Go to “Books” and search for iPhone Users Guide
You can then download all 1,050 pages to your device.

The “books” version isn’t so much generic; rather it covers ALL models.
For example p13 details the controls for your exact Xs Max.
This is one reason it’s well over 1k pages in length.
The online version - which IMO is far more usable - uses “drop downs” to more clearly differentiate differences between models.
I need a manual/user guide specific to the iPhone XS Max. The one “Books” offers is a generic Iphone user guide. I’m moving from an iPhone 7+ to a xs max and it’s a challenging transition!
