I forgot my password on my old iMac

I forgot my password on my Old iMac and to reset it's asking for a recovery key that I don't have.

A simple method is:

  • Restart the computer in the Recovery Partition by holding down Command + R on the start up.
  • Open Terminal which you will find in the Menus
  • Type resetpassword and follow the on-screen prompts.

Depending on how old your iMac and its OS is, the only way would be to boot up from a dvd ( very old iMac and OS) otherwise, Hold down the Apple &R keys together on the keyboard on reboot, hold them down until you see a language selection screen, pick one and continue; From there, move the cursor, the Arrow, to the top centre of your screen and click, you should now see OSX tools. From there, pick terminal and get that going, type in “resetpassword” , but without the “marks. Press the enter/return key on your keyboard and that will get you in to the main password reset app for your Mac
