Macbook Pro power connector intermittent

Sometimes I switch on plug in the power lead and no light comes on. If I then wiggle it it connects. I've looked at the gold pins on the device and they seem OK. Advice appreciated.

2014 version with Big Sur 11.4.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.3

Another consideration with magsafe Mac adapters, the debris in port/plug

is seldom magnetic. Beyond minor corrosion, or packed-in due to neglect.

(Those 'spring-loaded connectors' can fail to move, due to packed debris.)

I have just experienced the unexpected reset. It was as I was plugging in the power plug when the power was on and the laptop logged on to my account. The first two attempts to connect nothing happened ( the power light did not light up) On the third attempt there was a fizzling noise and the screen went blank and did not respond (it had powered down). I took the laptop to another power unit and the green light came on OK. The laptop had to be powered up again.

Advice appreciated.

I can add more to my previous reply. I took the laptop to my other charger (power unit) where the green light does not come on, turned the charger off first, and plugged the lead into the laptop. There was a fizz right there at the plug where it goes to the laptop point (even with the mains off) and the laptop reset (or attempted to). I turned on the power and nothing happened (no green light). I briefly heard the start up tone. Also, the laptop would not turn on when I disconnect despite the battery being nearly full. I took the laptop back to the 'OK' charger, plugged in and the light came on and then I had to turn the laptop on. All worked OK from then on.

So, it would appear that the other charger is faulty in some way causing the laptop to reset (or turn off). Is this the conclusion of experts on this forum? Thanks.
