Imagine capture no longer converting to jpg?

The pics on my iPhone 12 are in HEIC format. In my settings for photos, the transfer to mac or pc is set to automatic. In the past when I transferred the files to my Macbook Pro ( macOS Catalina) using image capture I was able to get the photos transferred in jpg format. Tried it today and can't get it to work. I tried using airdrop and got the heic format. Is there a way to transfer my photos using image capture as jpg format with iPhone 12 and masOS catalina? Is this option still available? I don't use the photo app on my mac.
