Found an app called 'Website Scanner' that I did not download.

I recently took a look through iCloud storage under System Preferences and found an app called 'Website Scanner' that I did not download. There is no history of me ever downloading this from the App Store. It does not come preloaded on MacBooks either. Could this app be purposely downloaded onto a computer and used for nefarious reasons, such as keeping an eye on one's documents or tracking their web activity? I have reason for concern and need to know what I am dealing with.

My iPhone X has also been acting up, giving me a lot of digital feedback during phone conversations, not responding when I touch the screen, completely losing carrier service like I had no service at all, volume is 50% less than it used to be a few months ago, alarms not working properly, etc... I have to shut down my phone at least once or twice a day. I know Apple claims their phones cannot be compromised, but the older the phone the easier to hack.

Four Thoughts:

A. Uninstall Security Software:

Uninstall this Security Software. Use the Uninstaller to do so, getting the Uninstaller directly from my Developer’s site, as getting it else where may result in Malware or Spyware being installed. If you are uncertain which to download, then as the Developer.

B. Scan your Mac for Malware:

Use MalwareBytes for Mac --- This is software that searches for malware/adware. So, scan with it and then remove what is found. Once removed, uninstall MalwareBytes for Mac. Then restart the Mac.

Downloads:

  1. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac
  2. Malwarebytes Uninstaller

C. Try Using a New Administrator User:

See what happens when you create a new Administrator User and login to it and perform the above. If it works, then it is something mid configured in your current user. So, move everything over to this new user, and then delete this user you are currently logged into.

If none of the above work, then...

D. Restore from a Backup:

Do you have a Time Machine Backup of your Mac that you created prior to this? If so, restore form it. If not, then take this as a learning experience, knowing to always create a Time Machine backup of your Mac prior to making any major change to is (i.e. macOS upgrade), so that you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the upgrade. Important: Create a backup prior to performing this restoration.

Two Things:

A. Can this Be Hacked?:

Yes. If it is a jailbroken device (possible when purchased from someone other than Apple), then, yes, it is a hacked device.

B. If Slow and Acting Up:

Try Clearing Space:

Many system resources may be being used by unnecessary items. So, consider performing the following...

A. Clean TV and Music Libraries:

Remove all unneeded files from your TV and Music Libraries. Full-Movies take up 2-4GB typically, and a bunch of those would take up a load of storage, ideally. So, if you have any movies that are not needed, then delete them.

Also...

B. Clear Temporary Internet Files:

Clear your Temporary Internet Files(Cookies & Cache) of Safari:

Also...

C. Clear "Other":

Clear the storage named "Other". It basically contains unnecessary files such as caches that are used for system ease of use - all of which gather over time: How to Clear "Other" in your iPhone's Storage - Use Backup - User Tips
