Night mode

My screen changes to a black background at night time and I don't want it to. However when I go into system preferences - "night shift" is switched off. Any ideas?

You may have confused Night Shift with Dark mode - Night Shift is a feature that shifts the display’s colors to reduce blue light emission, while Dark mode is simply a darker appearance to your Mac, usually applied at nighttime.

To disable the darker appearance:

  1. Open System Preferences > General
  2. Now choose between Light or Dark mode (not Auto).
