Connecting my new imac to my macbook pro

Hi,

I would like to connect my new imac to my macbook pro. I have them both connected through a thunderbolt adaptor right now and tried command F2 however this is not working. What would you suggest, maybe I am doing something wrong?

Warm regards,

Sarah
