How to remove ipad device activation lock

I've given my iPad mini to a friend. I removed it from my iCloud Account list, but I still can't set it up with my friend's Apple/iCloud account. I've tried almost every instruction on the apple support site on how to do this. So, obviously, the last instruction to allow me to set it up with my friend's account will by YOUR answer. :-) Can you please help?

How to remove iPad activation lock? I bought an iPad a while ago, haven't used it since, and it is only ios 10.3.3 and want to update it, it wouldn't let me on the iPad so I tried using iTunes. It's done with the update but it needs to do the activation lock, and I put in the current iCloud on my iPad and it said that the iCloud I put cannot be used to activate this iPad.
