what do you do when you make a facetime call and the other person can’t hear you and all they hear is static

When on a FaceTime call, everyone can hear me, but I’m unable to hear them. I had no problems hearing up until a month ago. When I make or receive a FaceTime call, the other party hears me but I can’t hear them.
