Changing country in the apple store

I lived in Switzerland about two years ago, and when I was there I added some funds to the apple store in CHF. When I moved out I still had 5 CHF in there so I could not change the country in my ipad, but I didn't care too much since I didn't need to purchase any new application in the meantime.

I now have an app that I want to buy, but it cost more than this 5 CHF, and when I tried to increase the fund I have, I got the message that "Your payment method is not valid in this store", and from the answer here:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3782793

it seems that it is because I don't have the right region\country set in the ipad.

So now I am stuck with these 5 CHF which I can't use, and it blocks me from buying the app that I want. Is there a way to solve it, other than just look for random apps with a total cost of 5 CHF?

The problem with adding a payment method is you need to have a payment method valid for the Swiss Apple App Store. This is typically a credit or debit card with a Swiss billing address.* You probably don't have that anymore so now your only option is to ask Apple to keep the balance which will then let you change your country setting to your new country.

Click here --> https://support.apple.com/choose-country-region Select your country, then a product such as billing. If you do not see your country, see if there is an "other" listing for that region. If you don't see an option that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

Thanks for the reply. I couldn't find the answer in the apple website, so I eventually called apple support and their solution was to just buy something with the 5 CHF and then change the region. I somehow hoped that a company like apple would not have these type of weird situations...

Anyway, thanks again.

I am not sure about what you were told over the phone... (Some of us do not believe in the infallibility of Apple Support.) If you want to change countries and use the solution they told you to try then you will have to find something that costs exactly 5 CHF, plus you may still need to have a valid payment method on the account since that is required by Apple if you "buy" anything that actually costs money. Unless you still have a credit card billed to you at an address in Switzerland that may not be possible to do. That's what I was trying to explain in my first post. Now I don't think Apple needs 5 CHF (sounds like a nice slice of cake and a coffee from my days living in Zürich!) but you may be in a position where you are forced to donate it to them in order to bring your account to 0.
